I've Consumed Enough
I've had enough and Consumed enough these days.
From past days (…months actually) I've binged alot media and consumed so many free contents (just because they're free?). Movies, TV shows, Kdrama, Light Novels, Blog posts, Reviews (Movie/Books/Product), Comments on Reddit, Doom scrolling forum threads, Internet research and … I think I've just had enough. In the name of "Know it all person", I've just consumed and spent so much time on being Internet Nerd or Digital Consumer monster.
Usually every time that we spend has some purpose, and yes I also had purpose to consume each bits. But at the end of the day, I finally want some answers, thoughts, moment of realization or insights that I'd carry.
Honest truth, Nothing really answered me, and only thing that kept back firing me was "Regret" on trying to do stuff by consuming them. I think I had well researched on things before, but still all I was procrastinate and go on consuming streak just so I don't miss on on-going things.
Eventually I realized that I only trying to kill time by pushing it ahead or trying to get motivated by external resources (again be it all media/content I mentioned). Sooner thankfully I finally realized that I only needed space and a moment to mindfully think whats actually needed and what I've been doing. You know, that moment or flow state of being self-conscious and understand whats surrounding you.
Majority of this related to me trying to perfect some PKM (Personal Knowledge Management) system and trying to write more blog posts. I tried revamping the blog so I'd be posting and writing more here.
Recently things have changed for good, thanks for me seeing the other side of ocean. Rather than looking at the book, I started looking at critics and review of things in negative side. Then it all clicked of whats wrong with current thoughts of people and media, golden tag I realized was that everyone is selling some or the other things. And people who buy well, proclaim it well, and only when you look at critic or product value we realize its not what it looks like.
One moment that clicked when I was reading on PKM was that not many successful people claim those fancy terms in practice, only people who are sold will advertise them. PKM or note taking has never been about a system, it was always about writing, thinking and processing, just that. They all just write than complicate or find a system. System comes when need exist, I don't think any practitioner has need for those fancy systems at all.
Another moment that clicked was when I stumbled across Lobste.rs Favorite Blogs discussion today. It showed how diverse poeple write posts and what they seek to communicate by them. Again realized here, most of them just write without boasting anything about organization or providing self-host to others. They'll just write to get it done, they don't validate with system to work for them. I Imagine they all achieve the Flow State while writing content and publishing, that is their formula for having it as favorite blogs. That flow state really dictates how quality they give out their posts.
Later this evening I stumbled on Abhinav tushar on mastodon and saw that he is part of Bangalore Indie web club. Did not know it existed at all, If not I'd have definitely made way to attend them as much as possible.
There is one things common from all people in that club, Weekly Posts, they all write weekly post on
their own blog site. How the heck they write them all without missing or procrastinating?
I thinking they all just start to write and get it done. Even as of writing this post I'm amazed at
how everyone writes their every week. Even quality bloggers do only every month for one good post,
and they all just write good enough.
I soon want to join their webring so it reminds me to write more so I get engaged in the club more. But I'll first try to attend in-person meetup and start getting disciplined myself to write more and then officially becomes the keeper.
Books are very verbose and beat around the bush (just because text is free). All books (from
reviews) are better off an Article post, or One page or 21 lesson or 30 tips in summary. All books
do is give out various examples to make readers self-validate the method and convey acceptance. Only
when I look at critics part I realize the other way round.
And Only thing book can give readers is to take a space/moment of time to reflect, think and process
the information in concrete and pragmatic way. I believe One page a day only clicks for eliciting an idea or giving space for thoughts and processing.
Even I've not updated my blog site at all, stopped mid during adding media content in pages (Projects, Media and Wander). I should start updating them since I read various gems from again recent consumption race.
- Brennan's take on PKM - Great site to read and writes alot
- BLR Indie Web Club - All posts + People blog page (so many writers)
- Dotat's two Decades of blogs - Good overview of how things changed and what remained constant trouble.
- …and there are more.
TLDR
- For anyone who couldn't grasp this post, What I wanted to say was that, I've wasted too much consuming media and resources all over Internet.
- I've lately realized that I should start writing more or process information than being mindless consumer.
- This time I'll finally put an end to mindless consumption and keep this post as reminder to do daily journal and write blog posts as much as possible.
- I do not know who reads, so all I can do I hope to at-least do writing spree.
